From: donald nicklas Subject: [Boston-voice-users] March 13 Meeting Announcement Date: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 01:57:53 PM A quick reminder- our regular meeting is next week: When: Tuesday, March 13, 2007, 7:30 pm Where: MIT, Room 2-139 (directions below) Topic: Mastering Windows with Your Voice A professional GUI programmer will explain to us why all Windows programs don't respond the same to voice commands, and give us some badly needed tools to work around these occasional problems. We will demonstrate these tools with Dragon NaturallySpeaking driving Windows XP, Internet Explorer, and an application or two. The computer industry gave us the mouse, folders, icons and buttons so that we wouldn't have to remember complicated commands and type them into a commandline. These days you naturally assume that if you see a button, an edit box, or some other control, you can activate it with your mouse or a shortcut key. Imagine your consternation if, when you click the mouse or typed that key, nothing happened. Speech-recognition users often assume that they can activate a control such as a hyperlink, a button, text box or other control by simply saying a word or phrase. That doesn't always happen and consternation ensues. We will show you how to cope. Boston Voice Users meets at MIT from 7:30 p.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. -------------------------------------------- Don Nicklas Boston Voice Users http://www.bostonvoiceusers.org/ -------------------------------------------- Directions to room: Go in the main door of MIT, at 77 Mass.
