From: Dan Jacobs Subject: WebTech - tues 11/15 Waltham - Ruby on Rails Date: Wed, 9 Nov 2005 12:52:24 +0000 Hi everyone, This month's WebTech meeting will be next Tuesday, 11/15, from 7 to 9 pm, at our usual place. Directions at http://www.acm.org/chapters/webtech. The meeting will feature a presentation on "Ruby on Rails" by Frank Kim. On behalf of Shawn Becker, our new chairman, I hope to see you there! All the best, Dan Jacobs, co-chairman ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Abstract: Rails is an MVC presentation-tier framework for web applications that's gotten rave reviews from certain quarters. Where other frameworks often implement only part of the solution, requiring the developer to integrate multiple frameworks into the application and then coerce them into working together (e.g. a Java developer might use Hibernate, Struts, and Tiles to get full MVC support) Rails provides all the layers so they work together seamlessly. Frank Kim will be leading a review of this technology. Frank is a seasoned web applications developer who was a lead developer at ATG from 1999 until 2004. Since leaving ATG Frank has consulted for various clients on ATG Commerce and Portal projects. Recently Frank has become involved in Ruby on Rails development. MeetingKoreans.com is the first site Frank developed using Ruby on Rails and other sites are in the pipeline. Join us for the next WEBTECH meeting on November 15th for an open forum discussion about Ruby on Rails. Come no matter what the reason. Come if you want to share your enthusiasm for this promising technology. Come if you're simply curious about its strengths and weaknesses. Or come if you can show that it has critical shortcomings. All opinions will be heard. This month's WebTech meeting will be next Tuesday, 11/15, from 7 to 9 pm, at our usual place. Directions at http://www.acm.org/chapters/webtech.
