Date: Tue, 14 May 2002 22:14:37 -0400 From: Dan Jacobs Subject: WebTech Tues 5/21 7pm Waltham - OMG MDA for J2EE Hi everyone, This month's WebTech meeting will be on Tuesday, May 21 at the IBM SPC in Waltham, from 7 to 9 pm. Details and directions are available at http://www.acm.org/chapters/webtech. The presentation this month will be given by a representative from Compuware in Framingham on the topic of "Using OMG's Model Driven Architcture to Build J2EE Applications." This is sure to be a very informative presentation, so don't miss out. I hope to see you there! Also, IBM has invited all our members to the IBM "Speed Start Your Linux App" developer briefing at the IBM Office in Waltham, MA on Tuesday, June 4 from 6:00pm - 8:30pm. More information about that event is included below. -- Dan Jacobs, WebTech Chairman Abstract: Using OMG's Model Driven Architcture (MDA) to Build J2EE Applications OMG's model driven architecture (MDA) allows organizations to build platform and language neutral models and specifications of functionality. This approach will improve the stability, durability, and reuse of models, as they are not bound to any specific technology. Furthermore, it will boost developer productivity by increasing the code generation capabilities of development tools. As models are translated from a platform independent model (PIM) to a platform specific model (PSM), and further to an implementation (code) model, intelligent code generation engines are able to produce more and better code. This presentation discusses how to utilize the OMG MDA to build J2EE applications. We will present how to use the concept of platform independent models and platform specific models. We will discuss how MDA enables the generation of a complete and functioning code model, covering the EJB tier, WEB tier, EIS tier, and Connector tier. The platform specific model drives the code generation by applying a variety of transformation and implementation patterns. This technique enables the ability to generate reliable, working, and complete J2EE compliant Java code. This presentation will cover the complete process from PIM to PSM to code model, including code examples of relevant Java classes created. Compuware's OptimalJ J2EE development tool will be used to augment this material illustrating real world construction of J2EE compliant Java code from OMG MDA models. -------------------------------------------------------------------- IBM Linux Application Development Briefing Presented by developerWorks and PartnerWorld for Developers Are you a developer, product manager, or software architect interested in learning more about the Linux operating system and developing Linux applications?
