Date: Tue, 7 May 2002 09:37:38 -0400 From: richard seltzer Subject: Chat reminder -- Thursday, May 9, Assessing ROI from a training standpoint BUSINESS ON THE WEB -- Where "word of keystroke" begins This Thursday, May 9, from noon to 1 PM (Eastern Time -- GMT -4) we'll be talking with Ray Vasser about assessing ROI from a training standpoint. Ray's perspective is that in managing and developing the most important resource (which can be very subjective) a plan has to be put together that will help assess and put value to the training programs that are driven in organizations. Ray feels a strategic plan needs to be implemented that will create a systematic approach to identify needs of the organization and the benefits from meeting those needs(through training). "A plan from a ROI perspective will enable training departments/managers to continue to justify training as a valid business tool, justify costs, help improve design and methods in which training is delivered to get the highest deliverable possible. Thus impacting the organizations bottom line. From a training perspective that needs to be shown!" Ray is a Partner with Performance Resources Consulting Firm and a Professional Training and Organizational Development Consultant. He has over 15 years of business and development experience, and is certified in training. He has been a training facilitator in most of the 50 states, Canada, and Europe, along with being an entrepreneur. His focus is on transfer of learning from the training room to the operational environment "which is key to bringing differentiating ROI to businesses." To connect to this chat session, go to http://www.samizdat.com/chat-intro.html We'll be on, as usual, from noon to 1 PM Eastern Time (GMT -4) this Thursday. For links to transcripts of previous sessions, check http://www.samizdat.com/chat.html I just posted the edited transcript of last week's session with about developing applications for speech, with Ken Ingham of Amazability. This transcript includes about a dozen followup answers that Ken provided afterwards by email, so even those who participated live should take a look -- http://www.samizdat.com/chat156.html (By the way, in those additional responses, I learned that Ken himself is totally blind. Live participants would never have guessed that. Simply amazing.) The main threads of discussion were: -- Amazability's focus -- Choice of Linux -- Design plans for the suite of products -- Blind programmers -- Section 508 -- federally-mandated accessibility for the blind -- Blue sky -- the ideal hardware platform, with no keyboard and no screen The following Thursday, May 16, we'll once again talk with Roberta Kalechofsky, novelist, essayist, speaker, and publisher (http://www.micahbooks.com). Our conversation with her a few weeks ago was cut short back problems with Internet connectivity; so we're going to give it another try. We'll be talking about her works and also about experiences and learnings from the realms of traditional small press publishing, print-on-demand, and marketing over the Internet. If you get a chance, please try to read some of her work in the meantime. You'll find the full text of three of her novels at my site: Justice My Brother http://www.samizdat.com/micah/justice.html View from Toledo http://www.samizdat.com/micah/toledo.html Orestes in Progress http://www.samzidat.com/micah/orestes.html I hope to have a CD of her "works" available soon. (Please check out my other offerings at my online store http://store.yahoo.com/samizdat). Please let me know your suggestions for other guests and topics. I'm looking for interesting and innovative business models, products, and services. seltzer@samizdat.com Please send email with your follow-on questions and comments, and requests to receive email reminders about upcoming sessions.
